I am an oceanographer, microbiologist, and deep sea explorer who studies the role of the oceans in global elemental cycles, how the oceans respond to acute and chronic perturbation, and how microorganisms metabolize oil and gas that is released naturally from seeps as well as hydrocarbons originating from anthropogenic activities. I am passionate about ocean conservation and advocacy, advancing ocean literacy, and helping the public learn how each person can make the world a better place through individual and collective efforts.
