As a Cinematographer and Field Producer, Bill Mills has circled the globe filming projects for National Geographic, CBS's 60 Minutes, BBC Television, Discovery, NOVA, PBS, History Channel, and a wide range of corporate clients.
Since 1997, he has been CEO for BMA Production Services of Florida, Inc. d.b.a Digital Cinema HD, a professional media boutique in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Bill offers production services for 4K Ultra HD digital cinema, broadcast television, and web distribution. He brings a wide and diverse range of experience ranging from documentaries to sporting events, commercials to corporate image and instructional programs.
A Master Diver, Mills has been Underwater Director of Photography for a variety of broadcast programs for National Geographic (Tiger Shark, Search for the Submarine I-52, Pursuit of the Giant Bluefin) , CBS 60 Minutes (Return of the Humpback (2013), Cuba’s Gardens of the Queen (2011), and Palau’s Missing Airmen (2014). As a cinematographer he was part of a Bezos Expedition crew that recovered and documented the missing Apollo 11 F-1 engines from 13,000 feet in the Atlantic in 2013. The team was awarded a Citation of Merit at the Explorers Club Annual Dinner in 2014.
In 1998 he had the privilege of making a number of dives in the Russian MIR 2 submersible to a depth of 17,500 feet to film the sunken Japanese submarine I -52 for the Nat Geo Special Search for the Submarine I-52 . He worked closely with Dr. Sylvia A. Earle on the Special Pursuit of the Giant Bluefin (1998) and Dr. Robert Ballard on Pearl Harbor: Legacy of Attack (2001).
In addition to his underwater work, Mills was the DP for the first four years of Emeril Lagasse’s series, Emeril’s Florida. He has produced and shot a number of programs for the Department of Defense Combating Terrorism division and the Florida Department of Emergency Management. BMA/Digital Cinema HD continues to remain at the cutting edge of technology with Sony's new 4k camera, the PMW - F55 and the Vision Research line of Phantom high speed cameras to compliment its inventory lighting, and underwater specialty gear.
Over his career Mills has garnered six Emmy Awards and two Cine Golden Eagles, as well as two national nominations for his work on Nat Geo's "Tigers of the Snow" and NBC/Dateline's "Escape From the Costa Concordia". He is a Fellow National FN'14 with the Explorer's Club, avid sailor and 100 Ton Merchant Marine Captain.
