A native of Dallas, Michael received a Master in Fine Arts | Producing from the American Film Institute (AFI) where he was granted the honor of commencement speaker.  It was there that he realized film could be used to “change the world.” His career and passions have successfully woven between “for-profit” and “non-profit” ventures.

While in Los Angeles, Michael produced and executive produced over 20 feature-length films for HBO and SHOWTIME. He also produced over 30 commercials and music videos for Black Dog Productions, Ridley Scott’s commercial production company working with talented directors including David Dobkin, director of The Wedding Crashers and The Judge.

Michael returned to Dallas in 1998 to care for his father who was diagnosed with terminal Pancreatic Cancer. As a legacy to his father, Michael founded the non-profit Arts Fighting Cancer (AFC) with a mission to promote the arts while benefiting the Cancer Relief Fund. AFC produced the annual Deep Ellum Film Festival (DEF2) from 1999 – 2005, the 2002 Santa Monica Film Festival and the Santa Monica Drive-in at the Pier from 2002-2006.

Michael formed Deep Ellum Pictures in 1999 and as its President, produced and directed the award winning documentary TV Junkie (Special Jury Prize, 2006 Sundance Film Festival). In March 2007, TV Junkie aired on HBO as part of the Addiction SeriesThis series received the Governor’s Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Science (The Emmy® Awards). Hollywood Reporter called TV Junkie “the most powerful” of the four films included in the HBO series. Following the success of TV Junkie, Michael partnered with the New York Times to produce the Educational Curriculum Film Faces of Addiction,which received an AVA Award and was nominated for a PRISM AWARD™.

From 2006 to 2011 he served in multiple roles as the Co-Founder, Founding Artistic Director, CEO, Chairman of the Board and President of The Dallas Film Society which hosts the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF) one of the top 50 film festivals in North America. Michael has been named one of the nation’s Top 10 Film Festival Programmers in the world by Filmmaker Magazine.

Under the M3 Films banner he is co-directing The Starck Club, a documentary set in 1980s Dallas and centered on the designer Philippe Starck’s first American design, the infamous Starck Club. He is in development on the narrative film and television series based on The Club. He served as an Executive Producer on the Steve Jobs bio-pic Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher and is an Executive Producer on the Stanley Marcus documentary. 

He recently teamed up with close friend Trammell S. Crow and the worlds largest Earth Day Exhibition event "Earth Day Texas" to launch an environmental film festival in April of 2017.
